Jami Yonekura-Jones Named ITA 3C2A Coach of the Year
Knights' head coach Jami Yonekura-Jones was named ITA/3C2A Women's Tennis Coach of the Year on Wednesday night at the annual 3C2A banquet ahead of the tennis state championships. It is the first time that she has received this award and it is well-deserved after guiding the San Diego City to a second consecutive PCAC championship.

"I am deeply honored to be the recipient of the ITA 3C2A Women's Coach of the Year award," said Yonekura-Jones. "This award would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of my team as well as the unwavering support of the staff and administration at San Diego City College, not just this season, but throughout my tenure as the women's tennis coach at SDCC. I feel truly fortunate to work with so many amazing student-athletes in a sport that I love."
Her Knights won every singles and doubles match in conference play on their way to an undefeated 2025 PCAC season. They not only won all eight conference matches this season, but also finished 7-1 in 2024, including the final five matches to bring their current PCAC win streak to 13.
The Knights also ended the 2025 regular season with a 13-4 record and a .765 win percentage, which is the best during head coach Jami Yonekura-Jones' 12-year tenure at San Diego City.
City's No. 1 duo, Angie Palmerin and Bethlehem Gezahegne, won the PCAC doubles championship on April 5 and they both advanced to conference singles championship match, which they played before leaving for the state championships with Palmerin outlasting her teammate for the title.
Palmerin and Gezahegne also qualified for the state championships for singles and doubles along with four other Knights, including Chiara Burgin, Thi Bich Ngoc Dang, Jessica Hoffpauir, and Anya Villanueva.
