Both teams got off to a hot start in the opening minutes as they each shot over 60% for the first five minutes of the game. They traded buckets and were even at 12-12, but that's when Mira Costa began to separate themselves from the Knights. The Spartans used a 12-1 run to take a 22-13 lead midway through the first half and kept the Knights at arm's length for the rest of the half. They went into the locker room with a 36-27 lead at the half.
Mira Costa extended its lead to as many as 19 with 7:15 left in the second half, but the Knights kept fighting and went on an 8-0 run over the next five minutes to cut the Spartans' lead to 62-51 with 2:04 left. It was too deep of a hole to get out of, however, and the Knights fell, 70-53.
Field goals were hard to come by for the Knights after the opening minutes of the game as they ended up shooting only 31.7% for the game.
The Knights ended the 2012-13 season with a 14-16 overall record and 4-8 PCAC record. It's only the third time under Head Coach Mitch Charlens' 9-year tenure that the Knights have finished under .500. Under Charlens, the Knights have never had two seasons in a row with a losing record.
Six sophomores for SDCC were playing in their final game as Knights including Anderson, Trevor English, Bren Haley, Justice Howard, Devyn Iglehart and Josh White. They were recognized prior to the game for their hard work and achievements during their time at SDCC.
