San Diego City is off to a good start in PCAC play after getting a 7-6 win at Imperial Valley on Thursday and following it up with a 16-6 victory over IVC at Morley Field on Saturday. The Knights improved to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in conference.
With the game tied 6-6 in the top of the 10th of Thursday's game, Marcello Fajardo hit a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Oliver Faith to score the winning run. Closer Eli Montgomery, who currently leads the state with five saves, allowed only one hit in the final 3.2 innings to earn his first win of the season.
In Saturday's home game, starting pitcher Aiden Kuei made his first appearance since throwing a no-hitter a week earlier and had another strong performance as he went 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts to improve his record to 5-1 on the season.
The Knights's offense got started early by putting up four runs on the board in the bottom of the 1st on Christopher Marquez' RBI single and Jackson Keeton's 3-run homer to left field, his first of the year.
In the 3rd, Faith stole home to give City a 6-0 lead.
The Knights scored four more in the 4th, highlighted by Landyn Magina's RBI triple, to go ahead 10-0.
Magina and Andres Johnson each drove in a pair of runs in the 6th inning on a single and double, respectively, to increase City's lead to 14-1.
Imperial Valley did score all six of its runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings, but the Knights' lead was too big to come back from.
City tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the 8th to win 16-6.
The Knights will now play a two-game series against Mesa (5-12, 0-2 PCAC) starting on Tuesday at Mesa at 1 p.m.
